چکیده

481 Fom the point of view of oligodendrocyte and demyelinated axon interaction, glial scars of reactive astrocytes obstruct to myelinating oligodendrocytes the access to naked axons. On the other hand, astrocytes also produce neurotrophic factors that promote remyelination. An alternative strategy that CNS cells have to avoid axonal damage, when remyelination is not efficient, consists in that either oligodendrocyte or astrocyte processes sheath the denuded axons. Although the CNS have endogenous mechanisms to promote myelin repair, more often remyelinated lesions may even become the target of new demyelinating attacks 60 difficulting the neuroregenerative process.

Potential Drug Targets for Neuroregeneration and Repair

Unlike the peripheral nervous system (PNS) the adult mammalian central nervous system (CNS) does not spontaneously regenerate after injury. Numerous axon-inhibitory molecules are present in the injured CNS and various strategies for overcoming these obstacles and enhancing CNS regeneration had been experimentally developed. Adult neuroregeneration is a complex process, beyond the common knowled...

An NO/GSNO-based Neuroregeneration Strategy for Stroke Therapy

Stroke is associated with significant morbidity and mortality due to the limited neuroregeneration capacity of the injured brain. Other than thrombolysis in the acute phase of the disease by tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which offers only a short window of treatment (~3 hours), an ideal stroke therapy is not available mainly because of limited understanding of the mechanisms of neuroregen...

Nucleotides in neuroregeneration and neuroprotection

Brain injury generates the release of a multitude of factors including extracellular nucleotides, which exhibit bi-functional properties and contribute to both detrimental actions in the acute phase and also protective and reparative actions in the later recovery phase to allow neuroregeneration. A promising strategy toward restoration of neuronal function is based on activation of endogenous a...

TRPV1 may increase the effectiveness of estrogen therapy on neuroprotection and neuroregeneration

Aging induces physical deterioration, loss of the blood brain barrier, neuronal loss-induced mental and neurodegenerative diseases. Hypotalamus-hypophysis-gonad axis aging precedes symptoms of menopause or andropause and is a major determinant of sensory and cognitive integrated function. Sexual steroids support important functions, exert pleiotropic effects in different sensory cells, promote ...

.Neuroprotection induced by Preconditioning with Prolonged and Intermittent Normobaric Hyperoxia Induce Catalase Activity in the rat stroke model

Introduction: Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) is an endogenous phenomenon that can induce ischemic tolerance (IT) in variety of organs such as brain. In this study, we examined the intermittent and prolonged dose of normobaric hyperoxia (HO) on neurologic deficit scores, infarct volume, and catalase activity. Material and Method: The rats were divided to four main groups. First two main groups w...
